A Walkers Tale

Today I am back making my way along the south coast - but initially following the Royal Military Canal rather than the England Coast Path . This will take us along the old route of the coastline until we reach Cliff End - and there we will revert to the England Coast Path , which will then take us to Hastings.

Today I am heading back out to do another section of the Pennine Way - and today the plan is to walk from Alston to Haltwhistle, heading along the South Tyne valley. My plan had originally been to walk this as part of a two-day walk - which would have started in Appleby-in-Westmorland and finished in Haltwhistle - but of late I have been favoring more frequent, but shorter, stretches of walking - and so today I am breaking this one up.

Today is the second of two days spend walking the Liverpool & Leeds Canal , having walked from Albert Dock to Aintree on the previous day. The walk today will finish off the stretch through Liverpool (by this point heading through Aintree) - and then through the suburb of Maghull - before the canal will be a mostly urban affair, all the way round to Appley Bridge.

Today the plan is to head out and over two days walk the final missing stretch of the Liverpool & Leeds Canal - and today the plan is to walk from Albert Dock to Aintree. This is unlikely to be the most exciting stretch of this canal - with this being the most urban stretch of the canal - but the thing about canal walking is that you go where the canal goes, and in some ways that is part of it's appeal.

Today is the second day in a row spent walking the Tabular Hills Walk , having spent the previous day walking from Helmsley to Pickering .  After a longer previous day, the plan is for a shorter day today - walking from Levisham back to Pickering, and then heading home via the regular bus service that runs from Pickering to York.

Today the plan is to walk the Tabular Hill Walk - which whilst the poorer cousin of the Cleveland Way , is a walk that is hard to resist. This is not because it crosses any particularly fancy terrain, or offers any particularly spectacular views - but just for the fact that it completes a rather neat circle for those who have walked the full  Cleveland Way .

The Pennine Bridleway has a loop that juts out from Settle, and then comes back to finish where it started. And with this loop totaling around 10 miles it can be extended without creating too challenging a day - and the plan for today is to walk this loop, but extending to explore Malham Cove and Gordale Scar.
