A Walkers Tale

Today we are doing the stretch of south coast that I came down here to do - with this being the third of three days spent along the coast  - and having walked from Hastings to Eastbourne on the previous day. What makes today special is that we will meet up with the chalk cliffs off the South Downs - and for the stretch from Eastbourne to Cuckmere Haven we will be doubling up on both the King Charles Coast Path and the South Downs Way .

Today I am back down in the south of England to finish off the South Downs Way .  Four weeks ago I had set out on the first of four days on the same trail - walking the South Downs Way from Eastbourne to Queen Elizabeth Country Park - and today I am back to complete the length of the trail.

Today is my fourth (and final day) spent walking along the South Downs Way , having walked from Shoreham to Amberley on the previous day. Today the plan is to walk on to Queen Elizabeth Country Park. This leaves behind a final day of walking from Queen Elizabeth Country Park to Winchester, but that I will do later in the year.

Today is the third of four days spent walking much of the South Downs Way , having walked from Southease to Shoreham on the previous day. Today the plan is to walk from Shoreham to Amberley. I had stayed overnight in Brighton, and so the day starts with a slow bus ride through most of the suburbs of both Brighton and Shoreham, before stopping off by the side of the A283.

Today is the second of four days spend walking the South Downs Way (walking west to east as far as Petersfield) - having walked from Eastbourne to Southease on the previous day. Today we will be walking from Southease to just past Shoreham. Following a very good day of walking on the previous day, the spirits are high as I arrive at Southease train station - having stayed overnight in Lewes - and from here it is a short walk down to the bridge across the River Ouse, where I have to wait for a team of workers to finish replacing a board.

Most people do the South Downs Way from west-to-east - but today I am setting out to do four of five plans days along the trail (eventually), starting in Eastbourne, and then heading west along this trail. At this point the South Downs is a relative unknown to me (despite having grown up on the North Downs, we tended not to venture down towards the coast too often) - but it is a trail that is very highly rated.
